Gattathefur.....Door-sniffer

Gattathefur....Door-sniffer is number eleven. He has a nice big nose and remarkably he never gets a cold. He can smell the good smells of Christmas from afar. Today he can detect the lovely smell of Laufabraud and there is the fragrance of Hangikjot that hangs in the rafters. He tip-toes to the kitchen door, so that he can delight in all the good smells of Christmas cooking. As he is standing there in ecstasy, the housewife walks by and startled by his presence screams. Gattathefur unperturbed smiles and raises his nose higher.

We will be having Hangikjot. Wish we had some of your Laufabraud. Mother and I used to make it for years, even here in the States.I wish I could be in Iceland tomorrow night for some good skata :0

Oj...I hate the smell of skata...!

But I love the Laufabrauð, we used to make it too at home when I was little, but now I just buy it in the shop, which is not as much fun as making it yourself.

I´m not much of a meat-eater, but I´ll have a small piece of Hangikjöt too. But I love the Uppstúf, which I make with butter and cream and lots and lots of green peas and carrots. I never liked to eat meat; when I was little the only time I had it was on Aðfangadagkvöld, as otherwise I could not have the then rarity of homemade icecream, frozen in a bath of a salty mixture out in the nearest hob of snow, before the family got the first refrigerator... Yes, I know, I´m almost ancient, hahaha...!
