The Hummingbird Feeder
We have a Hummingbird feeder that is visible from my front porch. Much to my delight it is full of activity. There is a Ruby-throated pair that visit many times each day. As far as I can tell they are always the same pair.
The male has been dubbed the bully by me, as he stands guard over the feeder and won’t let anyone near it.
However, the female is quite tenacious and can get her share.
Several times, I have seen them both at the same time, enjoying a little repast. Some day I will get a photo of that moment.
The little male is quite busy as there are several Chickadees and Tufted Titmice that like to drink the water from the fresh water reservoir on the feeder.

Hummingbirds always seem like elusive, magical creatures to me. They're right up there with unicorns in my book. :)
Great pictures. I love watching the neighborhood birds and hummingbirds are especially fun.
Hummingbirds are so incredible! It makes me happy to know you get to see them each day. You are very lucky indeed because these little creatures don't let just anyone look at them!
beautiful birds..and the Queen of the sauna..and I love, love squirells..
Love your hummingbird pictures. Aren't they the most amazing little creatures? We had them at our feeders every summer when we lived in IL. But I haven't seen any since we moved to FL. I miss watching them. They are so brazenly territorial, aren't they?
Hello Mo'a! These are such delightful pictures, I love the last one espcially... I'm going to send my mom on over, as she will just love them all! In the Animal Medicine Cards by David Carson, the medicine of hummingbird is JOY. You are a joy Mo'a. Thank you so for this beautiful post...

Elsku besta Móa.
Dearest Mo'a.
Thank you so much for the wonderful little chrysalis that you sent me. It is precious, thank you so much.
I will display it in my new studio, the one that I am trying to put together, but the furniture have not arrived yet.
Thanks very very much.
I will also put it on my blog when I start working on it again.
Your feathery friends are so cute. I love birds!
We love birds here. I make wild bird feeders, ya know... Anyhow, that last bird looks like it might fly right at me through the screen!!!! Lovely!! xoxoxo
Susanna: They are indeed magical.
It is nice to see you in my neighborhood :)
Nessa: We have a lot of bird life in our yard...it is fun to get to know our feathered friends.
Constance: I spoil them the best I can to garner their loyalty.
D.Meister: Welcome...nice to see a new face. Thank you for your comments...I will be coming over to your blog soon.
Linda: My Mother has had Hummingbirds at her feeder for years...it took me three years to finally get them to my feeder.
Yes, they certainly are territorial...and very entertaining.
Lea: The last one is a little Tufted Titmouse. He is much larger than the Hummingbird...however, the Hummingbird chases him from the feeder...they are such fun.
I will check out the David Carson website...sounds interesting...and to me my little Hummingbirds fill me with JOY
Erla: I am so happy that the Chrysalis arrived safely.
I look forward to hearing more about your arrival in our beloved Iceland.
Vanessa: I have seen some of your bird feeder on your blog...need to go back and have annother look.
I am thinking of getting annother Hummingbird feeder...the Bully won't let the migrating Hummingbird near this one...It is amazing to think of these little birds migrating.
Oh they are beautiful LovaMóa! I love hummingbirds... there is so much magic to them, their colors, their very movement. They seem to be the equivalent of fairies but for birds... ethereal and just magical (no wonder you love them!)...
We are lucky to have many hummingbirds naturally flitter by in our backyard here in San Francisco (WOOH! I am still SO excited that I finally get to say "here in San Francisco"!). The grounds behind our backyard are protected and cannot be developed so there are a lot of trees, like a little forest, and we see them darting in and out of there and every once in a while they pay us a visit. Hopefully some day soon I can show you! :-)
Beautiful post my dearest LovaMóa... have a fabulous weekend!
Hi Mo'a - I love hummingbirds. True story :
When my daughter was 4 yrs old she was sitting on the toilet & out of nowhere a hummingbird started flying around her head. We don't know where it came from but it stopped in front of her face for a few seconds & then flew out the bathroom window. It would have been such a magical thing except that the whole time she was shrieking & terrified.
Wonder if there's any superstitions about that?
I wouldn't call him a bully persay, but we have dubbed our male hummer "The Red Baron". He jealously guards "his" feeder from all others, even the bees. Great pictures Mo'a - very beautiful.
Love the birds up close. Nice view from where you're sitting.
MizBohemia: It does sound exciting to hear you say here in San Francisco :) I am very happy for you.
Rachael: That is a lovely and a magical story...perhaps as she gets older she will find it special and magical.
Terry: We are seriously thinking about adding annother hummingbird feeder...Red Baron, great name.
G: I forgot to tell people to click on the photos...I love my view and would love to share it with you...when will you be back for a visit? :)
Just saw the following {your} comment in Dear Cory's blog....
"What a lovely way to gain some lbs...I don't remeber how mine arrived...so how can I know how to say good bye to them? ;)"
I had to come over and say that I LUV our words! Isn't that the truth? We don't remember how our extra *poofiness* arrived. How in the world can we know how to part with it? -gigggles-
But then, there's Cory. Who is not extra *poofy,* but we love her anyway. :-)
Mari-Nancirnhjqf
Ooops! I meant to say.. I LUV _your_ words!
Mari-Nanci
Oh wow!!! What an intro I am making! Yish. I signed the 'I-am-not-a-robot' letters, after my name, in my first comment. Double yish...
LOL.
Mari-Nanci
Mari-Nanci: Welcome, it is so nice to see you here.
Yes, it is a problem one day one is young and skinny then one is not so young and not so skinny ;) How does that happen?
Ahhh I see the Saratoga Spgs. connection... You studied at Skidmore. :-)
Yes, small world..
Mari-Nanci
Wonderous creatures, birds are.
So magnificient. I love the last picture, especially!
Mari-Nanci: Yes, indeed :)
Minka: My all time favorite is the Kria ;)
The little guy on the last photo is a Tufted Titmouse.
You captured these little ones beautifully!!1 AND I love those squirrel photos. Hysterical!!
Donna
Thanks Donna...they are little clowns :)
so pretty. I just refreshed my feeder after a long break from feeing. I'm hoping my little visitors return soon.
AnnieElf: I hope so also...they are such a pleasure.
The dance of the humming bird. Perfect photos! My Mother had one is her garden, all summer we watched them, they are so sweet how they move aren't they?
