Good Friends

Autumn is beautiful for us this year. I feel invigorated and ready for the busy times ahead.
We had house guests this weekend, friends of twenty four years.
He is a Landscape Designer who has taught us much about plants, trees and garden design. He helped us design one of our gardens that we sadly had to leave behind. We have seen many gardens and flower shows with them. He collects American antique silver, and was able to find some flatware by an Philadelphia silver smith, after much search in Labertville, NJ, New Hope, PA and in Philadelphia. It seems fitting that he found what he was looking for in Philadelphia..
She breeds Pugs and our dear little Pugs Tansy and Toby, who for fifteen years gave us much pleasure and joy were bred by her. She is an artist and a philanthropist, collects American Indian art and worked at one time at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC.
They are gourmet cooks and one of their specialties is Indonesian Rijsttafel. We all went to our favorite Indonesian restaurant in Philadelphia, that serves authentic Indonesian food.
These were good four days with great friends, good food and great conversations with many good laughs.

We went to the Red Barn, our favorite pie place, to order pies for Thanksgiving.
Pie anyone?

Nice post, sounds like a great visit. Old friends are the best.

I picked up six pounds looking at those pies on your post! SIX POUNDS!

(The fifty Almond Joys I quietly scarfed down on Halloween had nothing to do with it.)

((Having eaten all the Almond Joy candy bars, I began dropping whatever we had left into the trick-or-treaters' bags: Brillo pads. :-))

I agree, old friends are the best and new friends have great potential :)

Six pounds and oh! so healthy dark chocolate and almonds....good pick.
Brillo pads.....LOL...

Do you know about the Red Barn? It is on route 206 near Hammonton...."Roker on the Road" did a feature on them last year.

Nope, didn't know about it until I read your post. I just checked 'em on-line -- Penza's pies, right? A quick glance and YES! Coconut Custard (my personal fave) is on the list! Looks like a great place to shop for holiday dessert. Thanks, Mo'a! And, while I'm on the subject, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

You did this on purpose didn't you?! Now I'm sitting at my desk eyeing the pecan, thinking about apple and then al had to go mention coconut custard! Ummm um!

Sounds like a nice visit and a good time. Did they sit in Paloma?

oh, and here i was feeling guilty about not inviting you to join us for the latest edition of The Sar Tour! from what i can tell, you were nowhere to be found... well, you were somewhere, but no where near where you would normally have been had you not been where you were. (in my head this almost made sense)

we lived in Pennsylvania for 2 years and i don't think i ever heard of Red Barn (but we were out in Villanova, off the Main Line... i'm guessing Red Barn is on the other side of Philly?)

okay... now i'm off to check out those pies. pecan? coconut custard? nope... point me in the direction of chocolate cream, fresh boysenberry, and/or lemon meringue, and then get out of my way! (glad you got to spend your weeked with such special friends, Mo'a, it sounds like a lot of fun!) xox

Al: The Ricotta Peach and Blue Berry is my favorite and the Ricotta Pumkin and .........etc.
Order soon they are very busy this time of year.

G: Yes.....and their Pecan Pie is Mmmmmmmmmm and Grrrrrreat......Their apple pies and Ricotta custard pies to die for....hey!! I think they should pay me for all this publicity.
This is the place I will take you to when you come to sit in Paloma's chair......No!!!they did not there was a ribbon on it that said "Reserved for Gina, Neva and Sar...if they ever come.....and if they don't, they will not be my NBFs" So they did not get to sit in her chair....ofcourse I had nothing to do with this :)
Neva: Yes, yes I get it....but that does not let you off the hook as I said on CS.
The Red Barn is near or in Hammonton, NJ.....their specialty is/are Ricotta custard pies....they are wonderful.....and good for the hips :) See you soon???

An hour's drive to Hammonton, there and back, from Moorestown, NJ. And WELL WORTH IT!

We went, Mo'a, today -- and I just ate a slice of their blueberry peach ricotta pie. Spectacular! I'd tell you what I really think, but I don't go in for written blasphemy.

No coconut custard on hand, but I'm gonna order me up some o' dat stuff for T-day. Thanks for the tip, neighbor!

Love the leaves! I'm a fall kind of gal - and the screaming colors of your season are beautiful. Now, as for the pies... please I'd like a slice of fresh boysenberry - or strawberry rhubarb... ala mode. Yum!
