Thirty Five Years and Counting

Thirty five years ago I made the smartest move of my life.....I married Ken.....he has been my rock, especially these days while I have been recuperating from knee surgery. We have been fortunate, as we have had a good and interesting life together.
Below is a photo of Ken and our son Brian taken at Christmas time this year.

Happy Anniversary Moa. 35 years is so wonderful. Your "boys" are indeed handsome. Did they make those Christmas decorations, or are they just holding up your handiwork? And, what kind of little birdie is that in the background? (I love birds).

LovaMo'a... this picture is beautiful to me in sooo many ways! First of all, I must tell you that the men in your life are indeed handsome and most of all, I love the kindness and compassion that is apparent in both their faces...

And you would not BELIEVE how much of my childhood is in that picture!!!! The hearts we used to make with my dear Papa, my grandfather, as kids to hang on the tree... he was Danish/Icelandic and did live part of his life in Iceland and still has family there (Sigurdssons in Reykjavik)...

Then the hanging plates!!! Are they the ones of the year, with one for each month?!?! My grandma had them but one by one they all broke and she only has one left! My most cherished memory was of going to my grandma's house and Papa would serve me breakfast on the month of March, because it was my month, and something that simple meant so much to me!

Do you know if they can be bought anywhere and if so where? I just zoomed in on your pic and yes, they are the very same ones! Wow! What such little things can do and how they can weave different stories and different peoples together! I bet you have your own story about them, no?

By the way, my granfather's name was Olaff Sigurdsson and his father's name was Olaffur Sigurdsson (he was a captain in World War 1 and died on his ship at war)... maybe you know people who know the family... wouldn't surprise me... my mom once met some Icelanders on vacation here in Spain and when they got to talking they all knew quite a bit of people in common!

And yes, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I got started talking and have written a novel and forgot to say the most important thing of it all! 35 years is amazing and a dream to look forward to for me! Wow! I would love to know your story and how you guys met!

Minka: Thank you and I agree with you :) We made those for our Danish Christmas tree.
Terry: Sometimes it does not feel like 35 years....time does go by so fast. The bird is our Canary Oli Moses, he sings beautifully. He is 8 years old....old for a canary and some of his feathers are sticking out like a bad haircut. He lives in what we call a McCage....he got it for Christmas :)
Brian and Mette brought a book on patterns for Julehjerter with them from Denmark. We spent one evening making them. The ones they are holding up are Mette's and their's I am siting to the left still working on mine.....my excuse was that I picked the most complicated patern ;)
MizBohemia: Wow!! we are even more connected than I realized.
Ken found the plates on eBay and gave them to me for Christmas the year before. I have always loved them, especially the ones in red...my favorite accent color...I have a red something in every room in my house. They are by Bjorn Winbland. If you go on eBay and type in his name you can see many items by him and sometimes the plates come up for sale.
In Iceland we usually go by our first name and then our last name which is the first name of our father with son or daughter added. The way we find out "Who's people" you are is by where in Iceland they lived and their parents and their parents parents etc. It is very effective. So what we need to know is the above.
I knew that we were kindred souls. Would it not be a hoot if we were also related/kindred? :)

Ooooh! I will have to look him up on eBay then! Thank you! As for the names, I know all about the Icelandic name ways! My grandfather, or perhaps his dad did it, stopped it at Sigurdsson and there it stayed... in Denmark they don't change sooo... I don't know if the family we have in Iceland did the same thing though. I would assume they didn't and stuck to the Icelandic ways! I will have to ask my uncle in Denmark about it! Imagine if we were related or knew someone who knows someone who... Wow! Either way, you are always and forever my LovaMo'a and I am one lucky bohemian!
