Blueberries and Blossoms

I feel incredibly lucky to live only about 15 miles from where the Blueberry Capital of the World. That is their claim......the rumor is that Michigan is number one in blueberry production......however Hammonton, NJ sticks to their claim, as you can see by their big sign.
Blueberries have been my favorite berry since I was a little girl picking them from low bushes in the Icelandic lava fields.
This past weekend Ken and I went out to take pictures of flowering trees and bushes. Hope you enjoy them.

Hi Mo'a! I absolutely love this website in Husavik. We plan to travel there, with Bjarni's elderly Mom with us so we might stay at Kaldbakur. I love the crowberries too. When I was last in Iceland, I brought back some bearberry/crowberry wine. Lovely pictures on your site! I didn't know that blueberry bushes have so many flowers.

I loved this post my dearest LovaMo'a! I have never seen a blueberry bush and this was quite the educational post! How I wish I could go to Iceland someday soon and discover its many wonders firsthand!

But living it vicariously through your delicious and delightful accounts is a great alternative!

Hope all is well and that the healing is going strong! This bohemian just loooveees her LovaMo'a dearly!

I like big fat juicy blueberries. However, I'm with minka on the strawberries. There is nothing a big red strawberry!

i adore blueberries... yet i've never see a blueberry bush! needless-to-say, i had no idea how lovely they were! blueberries are one of the most powerful antioxidants we have in our dietary arsenol, so i try to make sure we eat 'em all the time!

like minka & kyahgirl, i lovelovelove strawberries, as well, but i'm a total freak for fresh boysenberries and/or blackberries. man. now my mouth is watering. time for some yogurt, granola, and... blueberries! yum! : D

Fresh blueberries are charmed things. Without casting any shadow on anyone's claim, We (my dogs and I) had the best row of blueberry bushes I've known behind our house in North Georgia. *shivers*

Terry: It is getting short until you will be enjoying Iceland. I also love crowberries.....how did your transplants do?
MizBohemia: I have an idea, why don't we go together to Iceland and visit Monika and Biene....we will show you the sights....and introduce you to a quarter of yourself:)or is it a third? I am doing well....learned to get out of chairs without arms and have relegated the cane to the closet.
LovaMo'a loves her Bohemian xoxoxo
Minka: I can just see you out picking crowberries and blueberries in the lava fields. Strawberries are a big deal here in Jersey....they are picking them right now and a jusier and more lovely fruit cannot be had anywhere...I love them and do not like the Hydroponic pretenders foisted on the public through grosery stores....can you tell that I have strong opinions about this? Tell Sabine thanks and that I am doing well....see my reply to MizB. I miss her and wish that her computer will soon be well :)
Kyahgirl: I agree field grown strawberries rock.....see my reply to Minka.....however, blueberries are still my favorite berry....I think it might be memory connected...the way we love the first apple we ever tasted or the first rose scent we experienced.
Neva: We use blueberries year around and were happy to hear how healthful they are. We freeze your
blueberries and use them as a snack straight out of the freezer.....we only do that off season :) Actually I do love all berries but my passion an loyalty are for the true blue.
Doug: Might we see a photo of your lovely blueberry bushes? I do not doubt that they are lovely. I am looking forward to going back to the same field to photograph the current stage. Do the berries grow on each blossom or are the blossoms unripened berries? Do doggies like blueberries?
MizBohemia: Thank you my dear we had a lovely day....talked on web cam with our lovely couple in Denmark...that was so wonderful. Mother is going for the surgery on Wednesday....send us your powerful thoughts.....LovaMo'a knows they will help :)

Well, don't think the transplants made it, although the moss is happy on it's piece of Icelandic lava. It gets watered only with pure, Icelandic water from Walgreens :-) The crowberries are not as sweet as blueberries, but cool just the same.

Terry: The moss must feel right at home on the lava.....Icelandic water from Walgreens? Wow!!!
I also love the crowberries found them on top of Mt.Washington once and in Norway at another time....it felt like a little bit of home.
MamaE: I love blueberries, dark chocolate and red wine.....I should be very healthy :)
Yes, physical therapists are truly amazing.....I am not so sure about my personal trainer....she works me hard and takes no prisoners....but I must plug on in order to Dance at my son's wedding in July *grin*

Bara að gamni, kannski þekkir þú þennan söng?:

Nú blánar yfir berjamó
og börnin smá í mosató
og lautum leika sér.
Þau koma, koma, kát og létt,
á kvikum fótum taka sprett,
að tína, tína ber,
að tína, tína ber.

En heima situr amma ein,
að arni hvílir lúin bein
og leikur bros um brá
er koma þau með körfur inn
og kyssa ömmu á vangann sinn
og hlæja berjablá,
og hlæja berjablá.
