Adventures In Paradise

Last April, I was fortunate to be able to go to an artist retreat on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. This retreat was in the home of fantasy artist Marilyn Radzat on Kawela Bay. Marilyn and her long time friend Gail Lackey also a fantasy artist, were our guides on our creative journey Ten women worked and played together for seven days, it was an experience I shall never forget.

Amma the gourd doll I created in Hawaii.

The Group....I am the fourth from the right.

Up a tree at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

LovaMo'a! You always manage to take my breath away with your beautiful work! A great mix of the Icelandic in Hawaii, which by the way is such a beautiful haven!

I haven't been to Oahu, though Loverboy has, but have been to Maui twice and am in love with it.

Glad you had such a beautiful experience! Here's to many more as the bionic woman!

oh-man-oh-man-oh-man!! do i envy you!! this looks fabulous! and you look so beautiful! what work did you do while you were there? (will you be sharing that, too?)

when my sister and i were there last year, we went to this amazing art shop on the north shore, where we learned about 2 sisters who live on the big island...in a giant TREE HOUSE! these old gals take turns traveling the world (they have a bunch of pets so they can't travel together) looking for cool trinkets, which they fashion into amazing key chains (much more unusual and awesome than i'm making it sound), anyway... that's my new dream... to someday live in hawaii, in a tree house, making stuff. if not cool key chains, perhaps gourd goddesses?

while you were in oahu, did you get to go to the art festival they hold in that little park in waikiki? i think it's held once or twice a month, and it features artisans from all over... you'd lovelovelove it!

oh, and as long as i'm here and making a pest of myself, dear Mo'a, please allow me to thank you for your lovely words while i was down with that god-awful flu! i always appreciate your visits and comments so much... i especially appreciated hearing from you while i was ill! (i always love your comments regarding the "dalai bobo", too!) you're a doll! : D

by "sharing your work", i mean besides that fabulous gourd doll (goddess)...that's what i get for "speed commenting", i leave stuff out!

also, i'm gonna post a picture of a fantasy doll my sister bought for me (at that art festival) which i think you will totally appreciate... i'll let ya know when i put it up! again, thanks for sharing these pictures with us... i visited the links, and, i must say... FABULOUS!! (did i mention how jealous i am??) : D

Hi Mo'a-I've never been to Hawaii and hopefully will go some day. Maui sounds about right for me.

The photos are great as is the gourd. (My first blog was called "The Canadian Gourdess", you can read about it in my first post last december if you're interested) :-)
take care.

MizBohemia~You are one of my most devoted fans and I am grateful for that. Amma is an Icelandic word for Grandmother.....She is my....as Neva correctly said.....Gourd Goddess. The outside reprecents the Sea and the inside the earth and the Grandfather figure....that reminds me I should show the inside :)
Neva~Right on Neva she is a Gourd Goddess. We did not go to the Art Festival.
We went to a Heiau with a Kahuna, Pahia she is the first one on the left in the group photo. We walked a deserted beach to collect schells, coral and other found objects for our Grourd Dolls. We went to a Banyan Forest to collect more treasurers from nature. We went on a trip to Haleiwa for Shave Ice and shopping. We created in the studio everyday and most evenings. Watched sunsets, walked and sang on the beach in the moonlight and checked on our friends the Honu (sea turtles) Three of them came to our beach each night. We all wore Sarongs most of the time. It was an incredible spiritual experience for me.....for us all.
I am with you Neva it would be wonderful to live in a Tree House close to the Beach and to create art.
Kyahgirl~ I am going to read your comments after I finish answering these great comments.
I hope you get to go to Hawaii sooner than later.....you will love it.
Minka~I agree with you and wish that every woman could have an experience like this somewhere in the world.
*blush* Thank you for the compliment....I look a little different now...25 pounds lighter and longer hair. I am looking forward to meeting you, Sabine and Greta when I am in Iceland.
Greta~Yes indeed it is beautiful and amazing.
